Students spent a weekend at the Brockton Veteran Affairs Hospital, taking part in activities such as serving patients during a pizza party, escorting veterans to church services, and helping set up a St. Patrick's Day party.
Student Nikolai Fomich looked on the visit to the veterans as "a great bonding experience, the closest I’ve ever gotten to the feeling that hope held. There is still much to do in helping others."
Rebuilding after Katrina
Alternative Spring Break-Local is one of two volunteer programs students can elect to take part in during spring break. For the tenth year, a group of students headed to the South to spend a week helping a community in need through Alternative Spring Break-Away.
This year's destination was Waveland, Mississippi, where, for the second year running, students volunteered in communities that were affected by hurricanes Katrina and Rita under the sponsorship of Habitat for Humanity.
