With Emerson leading 7-4 in the bottom of the fifth inning of Game 1, the Rams' Jess Ferriera (Cambridge, MA) came a couple of inches short of tying the game when she sent a fly ball to left center field off the top railing of the left field fence. After a debate between the umpires, Ferreira was a given a two-run single to cut the Emerson lead to 7-6. Ferreira finished the game 3-4 with three RBI, but picked up the complete game loss.
Unfortunately for the Rams, Emerson starting pitcher Heather Drobiarz retired the next three hitters in the inning to keep it a 7-6 game. Drobiarz pitched six innings for the win.
The score remained 7-6 heading into the bottom of the seventh, but the Rams could not push the tying run across against closer Angela Jorgenson who picked up the save. After Suffolk's Marie Trainor (Winthrop, MA) led off the inning with a strikeout, Ferreira and Ashley Gaboriault (Sutton, MA) each picked up one-out singles to force a first and second situation.
However, Jorgenson managed to bare down retiring Valerie Liberatore (Chelsea, MA) on a fielder's choice and Jackie Zwicker (South Easton, MA) on a ground out to end the game.
After Suffolk's Jenna Mourey (Rochester, NY) tied the game at 3-3 in the second inning, Emerson sent home two runs in the third and two more in the fourth to take a 7-4 lead.
Suffolk's woes continued in Game 2 with a five inning 11-2 loss. Emerson scored seven runs in the final three innings off of Suffolk starter Jess Ferreira for the victory.
The two teams were deadlocked at 1-1 in the top of the third when Bridget Farago sent a grounder straight back to Ferreira. Fortunately for Emerson, Ferreira's throw to the plate was too late, allowing Mallory Moretti to score Emerson's second run of the game.
Emerson quickly made it a 4-1 game with two more fielder's choice grounders. Emerson kept the pressure on in the fourth with another three-run inning. An RBI double from Farago made it a 5-1 game.
Mourey had Suffolk's only two RBI in the game. Her RBI single in the second tied the game at 1-1. Mourey picked up her second RBI with a ground-out to the third baseman in the fourth.
Emerson's Jorgenson picked up the complete game victory. Ferreira picked up the complete game loss.
The Rams fell to 10-12 in the GNAC and 12-21 overall. Emerson improved to 16-15 overall and 14-6 in the GNAC.
