Professor Tryan L. McMickens, Administration of Higher Education Program (Philosophy Department), published a coauthored article in the Journal of Critical Thought and Praxis titled "Independent study: How three doctoral students tackled issues recruiting participants and collecting data with historically underrepresented populations."

He also published the book chapter "At the intersection of race and class: An autoethnographic study on the experiences of a Southeast Asian American college student" in College Students' Experiences of Power and Marginality: Sharing Spaces, Negotiating Differences, edited by Elizabeth M. Lee and Chaise LaDousa.

McMickens delivered an invited talk at the University of Massachusetts Boston on Southeast Asian American College Achievement at the Second Annual Conference on Enhancing Asian American Student Success: Linking Research & Practice.
