Sociology Professor Susan Sered says that the pundits demanding that former NFL player Ray Rice be locked up for knocking out his then-fiance are wrong.
"We like to think that in prison, men like Rice will think about what they’ve done, repent, reform and emerge into the world as kinder and more law-abiding citizens. Unfortunately, that’s not how it works," writes Sered in the Washington Post article "Be careful about sending domestic abusers to jail. It might make them even more violent."
Sered's assertion is based on her research, which focuses on women's health, criminalized women, culture, and more. She also blogs about issues of the day.
