Suffolk's men's tennis team opens its 2007 season with hopes to improve on its Great Northeast Athletic Conference standing. The Rams return most of last year's top six singles players.
Coach Steven Counihan's team finished with a 6-4 overall record in 2006, 3-2 in GNAC matches. The Rams were the No. 3 seed in the GNAC tournament, but lost to Western New England in the semifinals.
"We lost to WNEC last year and we play them early this year and we hope to take care of that early," Counihan said. "We have two freshmen coming in that look really good and return most of our top six players from last year."
The Rams open the 2007 hosting Eastern Nazarene on Tuesday, March 20 at Buckingham, Browne and Nichols School in Cambridge, MA. Suffolk begins GNAC play on Saturday, March 24 against Johnson & Wales. GNAC semifinals are scheduled for April 26 and GNAC finals are April 28.
Returning players include juniors Andres Fanjul, Pedro Soares and Chris Delisi. Sophomores returning for the 2007 are Rodions Podgorbunskihs, Garrett Freeman, Nisarg Patel and Greg Garrison.
