English professor Thomas Connolly has been elected to the Marblehead School Committee for a three-year term.
A first-time candidate, Connolly won six out of seven precincts, defeating one aspirant and gaining more votes than the incumbent.
“I was hoping to win, but I couldn’t believe I topped the ticket,” said Connolly.
He stressed his experience as a Suffolk educator throughout his campaign, which he believes was a plus with voters.
Connolly enters the political arena with confidence that he can make a difference.
“I feel town government works best when all citizens are informed and involved,” he said. “I will work hard to ensure that the School Committee is responsive and open and will insist on accountability from administrators, respect for teachers, and, above all else, concern for students and how they must receive an excellent education.”
