The Suffolk University Baseball team opened the 2011 Eastern College Athletic Conference Division III New England Tournament Wednesday with a 7-2 victory over the Wentworth Institute of Technology Leopards.

The fifth-seeded Rams now advance to Saturday's semifinals matchup against top-seeded Endicott College.

Freshman Jake Cintolo went 3-for-5, bringing his single-season hit record to 76. Suffolk collected 11 hits as a team in the game, with all nine starters recording hits.

Sophomore Matt Sliney pitched 8 2/3 innings before giving way to junior Tim Belanger, who escaped a bases-loaded jam in the ninth to record his first save of the season.

Sliney pitched himself in and out of trouble all afternoon escaping bases-loaded jams in the second, third, and fifth innings. He moves to 3-3 on the season, with two of his wins coming in elimination games.

Suffolk will travel to Beverly to take on the Gulls in the ECAC Semifinals at 11 a.m. Saturday.
